Blackbird CrossFit reached out to the Eldersburg Community to hear their thoughts and impressions on CrossFit. We repeatedly heard similar sentiments:
- “CrossFit; I heard it is so hard. I don’t think I would be able to do it.”
- “I’m too intimidated and scared to try it.”
- “I need to get in shape first, and then I’ll come try it.”
So, you asked, we listened.
We will now be offering a CrossFit Beginner class starting Monday, April 14th 2014 that will run Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:30am! This class will be tailored to members who have recently graduated from our Foundations Course. We encourage potential new members who may share the sentiments outlined above, to use the Beginner class for the 3 class Free Trial!
We understand that taking on a new challenge like CrossFit can be intimidating, so the Beginner Class is designed to help ease people in. This class will mimic our regular Workout of the Day (WOD), but serve as a more gentle transition into regular classes. The Beginner class will use lighter weights, more scaled versions of the more difficult movements, and include more time reviewing the basics of safe and efficient techniques. It will be a challenge and you will be pushed out of your comfort zone; to get the great results we typically see, you have to put in the work. But it will be fun and you can go at your own pace. CrossFit is about being the best version of YOU, not the person next to you!
We still firmly believe in CrossFit’s main philosophy: that it’s a sport anyone can do because of its universal scalability to ones level and abilities. That means that my grandma or a new mom could be working out next to an elite athlete. Their load (weight) and intensity (reps) are different, but the program is not. But again, we understand.
“What you will soon realize is that CrossFitters are some of the most genuine people you will ever meet. And they welcome the opportunity to work with, encourage and cheer on new CrossFitters. There is no need to be intimidated. We were all beginners once. We know what it’s like to look at the WOD up on the board and not even understand what it means, much less how to do it!” explains Blackbird CrossFit owner and trainer, Matt Titus.

Please note, any level CrossFitter is welcome to attend this class if this is the time that suits your schedule. You are welcome to brush up on your skills with the extra instruction provided–there is always room for improvement–and do the regular daily WOD.
