Over fifty of our athletes embarked on a five week journey to see how their diet affected their bodies, their composition, and their performance in the gym. In just a short time, there was a great amount of inches lost, pounds dropped, and strength & conditioning increased. Simply by eating the right amount of the right foods. Our Nutrition Prescription at Blackbird CrossFit = EAT REAL FOOD, NOT TOO MUCH, MOSTLY PLANTS.

It was simple. No counting, no blocks, no templates, just these portioned trays. If you’re under 165lbs eat 3 trays per day including a serving of fat per meal, if you’re over 165lbs eat 4 trays per day and a serving of fat per meal.

This challenge helped to reset our athlete’s view of healthy eating, proper nutrition, and their relationship with food. Food is fuel and when you fuel your body with the right things…whole, real foods…you will not only feel better, but you will perform better.

We are incredibly proud of each of them for completing Phase I of our Winter Nutrition Challenge. Many of them are continuing on to Phase II where they will time their complex carbohydrate intake around their workouts to maximize workout performance and body composition. Here are the official results:

OVERALL WINNER: $500 prize

1st Place. SHANNON BURLINGAME – she lost 7 lbs, 10.8 inches overall, lost 7.6% body fat, increased her workout performance by 68 reps, and felt confident and looked beautiful in her dress for her work Gala!

HIGHEST BODY FAT % LOST: $125 prize

1st Place. OSCAR CALLEJAS – lost 8.1 % body fat, lost 20 lbs, 13 inches overall, , increased back squat by 15lbs, got 24 more reps in the workout, and felt lean and strong going into The Granite Games Competition with his little brother!

2nd. Shannon Burlingame – 7.6%

3rd. Ashley Richelderfer – 5.9%

 

 

BACK SQUAT IMPROVEMENT: $125 prize

1st Place. THOR RAMSLAND – increased back squat by 100lbs, lost 11 lbs, 4.5 inches overall, lost 8.1 % body fat,  got 67 more reps in the workout. Thor joined Blackbird in January and jumped right in to this Nutrition Challenge. So as a new CrossFit athlete he saw great improvement in his strength & conditioning.

DAILY POINT DIET ADHERENCE: $125 prize

We had a 6-way tie between athletes who didn’t cheat at all during the challenge! We are incredibly proud of each of their efforts. The tie breaker was total inches lost from arm, chest, high waist, hips, and thigh.

2nd. Alicia Pearre – 9 3/8 inches

3rd. Ashley Richelderfer – 8 inches

4th. Mary Ellen Whiteman – 7 1/2 inches

5th. Stan Jones – 5 7/8 inches

Remember, you absolutely cannot out-train a bad diet! Abs are made in the kitchen. Doing away with inflammatory foods such as processed foods, sugar, gluten, and dairy, and sticking with whole foods, is a great way to reset your body in a healthy way. No need to do juice cleansers or fad diets, just eat REAL food…meat, fish, veggies, fruits, & nuts/seeds. Pizza, alcohol, & ice cream should be an occasional treat, not a staple.
